Nepartak intensified rapidly before crossing southeastern Taiwan and continuing into Fujian. The typhoon weakened at each landfall, but damaging winds and floods extended across both sides of the strait.

STORM HISTORY
Rapid growth east of the Philippines
Nepartak developed southeast of Yap on July 2 and became a named storm the following day. Its organization improved steadily before rapid intensification began on July 5. Archived sustained winds reached 155 knots on July 6, equivalent to Category 5 strength.
The typhoon began weakening on July 7 and reached Taitung in southeastern Taiwan on July 8. Two people drowned before the crossing after being washed out to sea, and the storm damaged seven major highways on the island.
A second landfall in Fujian
Nepartak weakened to a tropical storm before making another landfall at Shishi in Fujian. It deteriorated rapidly inland and dissipated on July 10. Flooding in eastern China destroyed homes and damaged cropland, with the saved account reporting thousands of houses lost. Much of the storm's human and economic toll occurred after its strongest offshore winds had subsided.
